Equipment
Mixing bowls
Electric mixer or whisk
Doughnut pan (for baked doughnuts) or deep fryer/pot (for fried doughnuts)
Cooling rack (for cooling)
Spoon or doughnut cutter (if making homemade shapes)
Pastry bag or spoon (for glazing)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Doughnut Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
In another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the doughnuts tough.
Add 2-4 drops of your chosen cannabis terpenes and stir well. Start small, as terpenes are very concentrated, and adjust the amount based on the intensity of flavor you want.
2. Shape the Doughnuts
For baked doughnuts: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a doughnut pan or lightly flour it.
Spoon or pipe the doughnut batter into the pan, filling each well about 3/4 full. If you don't have a doughnut pan, you can also form doughnut shapes by hand and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
For fried doughnuts: If you prefer fried doughnuts, heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to about 350°F (175°C). Use a doughnut cutter to shape the doughnuts from the batter, or form small balls and create holes in the center.
3. Bake or Fry the Doughnuts
For baked doughnuts: Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the doughnuts are golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean. For fried doughnuts: Fry the doughnuts in the hot oil for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
4. Make the Glaze
While the doughnuts are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth and creamy. Adjust the consistency with more milk or powdered sugar if needed. If you want to add terpenes to the glaze, add 1-2 drops of the same terpenes you used in the doughnut batter, or experiment with a different profile (e.g., adding limonene to complement citrusy doughnuts).Mix well to ensure the terpenes are evenly distributed.
5. Glaze the Doughnuts
Once the doughnuts are slightly cooled (still warm but not hot), dip the tops of the doughnuts into the glaze. You can also drizzle the glaze over the doughnuts with a spoon or use a pastry bag for a more decorative effect.Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.
6. Serve and Enjoy
Once the glaze has hardened, your terpene-infused doughnuts are ready to enjoy! They’ll have a unique, aromatic twist thanks to the terpenes.
Tips
Start with a small amount of terpenes: Since terpenes are very potent, 2-4 drops per batch is a good starting point. You can always add more if you prefer a stronger aroma.
Terpene flavors: Experiment with different terpene profiles to create a unique flavor experience. For example:Limonene adds a citrusy, refreshing note.Myrcene brings earthy and musky undertones.Pinene offers a piney, herbal essence that pairs well with vanilla and sweet flavors.
Storage: Store the doughnuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2-3 days, or refrigerate them for a longer shelf life.
Enjoy your terpene-infused doughnuts! They will have a lovely aroma and unique flavor thanks to the terpenes, making them a delightful treat.
